Our Latest Response to Covid-19

In News by Niki Flowers

We have made alterations in the studio and online to improve the safety & reliability of our services

WE ARE OPTIMISTIC FOR JUNE 1ST We hope we will be able to welcome students back to the studio, but we are prepared for whatever the outcome –

ONLINE ALTERATIONS: The addition of microphones and large monitors to provide a better student experience

STUDIO ALTERATIONS:

CHANGES WE’VE MADE TO OUR BUILDING & SCHEDULE TO SAFEGUARD OUR STUDENTS:

1.    We have closed all studios except for one, our largest studio and will only teach one class at any given time, lowering the number of people in the building at any one time.

2.    We have marked the studio floor with 6.5ft x 6.5ft boxes to ensure students are always observing social distancing protocols, this also greatly reduces the footfall of our normal operation.

3.    We will have two teachers on premises at any one time and will not permit parents, guardians, siblings etc. to wait in the building whilst classes are in operation.

4.    We will have two teachers and one class happening at any one time. One teacher to physically teach the class and one teacher to manage social distancing and sanitization protocols.

5.    We have marked all other areas within the building to ensure everyone observes social distancing protocols at drop off and collection times.

6.    We have removed all seating and closed all “waiting area’s” within the building.

7.    Hand sanitizer is available at the entrance of the building and throughout the building.

8.    Our studio door will remain locked until a teacher is ready to invite students into the studio, providing us with control of social distancing and contamination of the studio.

9.    Fifteen (15) spray bottles of sanitizer have been placed throughout the studio so that equipment can be sanitized immediately after use by students and teachers.

10. We have added a window to the studio door to control entry/exit procedures

ENTRY PROCEDURES

1.    When entering our building students find themselves in a lobby.

2.    Opposite the front door is a sign and hand sanitizer

3.    On the floor of the lobby are brightly colored dots marking out safe 6ft distances between one another.

4.    The brightly colored dots continue all the way up the stairs to the entrance of our studio

5.    We have a window in the door that joins the top of the stairs to the studio, so that teachers can see out and students can see inside. The door is locked and unlocked by a teacher inside the studio. (A simple catch lock, no keys are required.)

6.    When a teacher is ready to receive a student, they open the door and ask one student at a time to remove their outside shoes and enter the studio.

7.    We have a designated place for shoes to be carefully stored, separately from one another.

8.    Once the single student has placed their personal belongings in a single cubby that they select in our student area they then make their way to a 6.5ft x 6.5ft square within the studio where they wait to start class.

9.    Points 7 and 8 continue until all students are inside the studio.

10. The teacher locks the door in order to stop any additional people entering in an uncontrolled way (The lock is a simple latch – no keys are required.)

EXIT PROCEDURES:

  1. All students wait on their 6.5ft x 6.5ft square within the studio whilst the teacher opens the studio door.
  2. Whichever parent is waiting at the top of stairs – their corresponding child is directed by the teacher to collect their shoes and personal belongs and leaves the studio
  3. Once the first student and their family have departed point 2 is repeated for each student.

MODIFICATIONS TO OUR NORMAL TEACHING PRACTICES TO MITIGATE RISK:
• In order to follow the (6ft) Social Distance Protocols we will not be teaching any partner or group work.
• Hand holding with younger students will not be allowed.
• When taking part in “traveling steps” in a dance class only one students at a time will be permitted to use the studio floor. All other students will be allocated “safe” places to wait using our Social Distance Lines and Dots, which have been placed throughout the building.
• Hip Hop & Commercial Dancers may no longer use shoes that have been worn outside for class. Shoes bought into the studio must be worn in the studio only, like any other dance shoe.
• A reminder for all students – dance shoes should be changed into when inside the studio and should not be worn outside when walking to the building for class. We will continue our rule of no outside shoes in the studio.
• A larger area for one dancer at a time to remove and replace their outside shoes has been allocated.

REVISED CLEANING SCHEDULE:

1.    General surfaces, door handles, toilets and sinks will be sanitized at the beginning and end of every daily shift.

2.    Studio floor, toilets and cubby holes will be sanitized between every single class

3.    Ballet barres and equipment will be sanitized immediately after use. (General usage is being lowered and eliminated where possible.)

NEW PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teachers and students are not permitted to attend class if they are presenting with any of the Covid-19 symptoms.
  2. Teachers and students will be sent home should they arrive at the studio with any Covid-19 symptoms.
  3. Should any person present with symptoms in the middle of a class they will be asked to use their face covering and sit in a quarentined area whilst a parent is requested to collect them.
  4. Every student must bring their own, clean hand towel to each class. The towel should be used to wipe themselves down when they get hot, before perspiration begins.
  5. In the absence of a parent to collect a child, we will have a spare teacher on hand to ensure students wait in a designated area that has social distance protocols in place.

FACE COVERINGS AND MASKS:

All students must maintain face covering apon entry and exit and whilst NOT exercising or participating in classes.

OUR WILLINGNESS TO ADAPT:
